Rapper Lil Wayne used lyrics from the Rolling Stones’ 1965 song, “Playing With Fire,” in his “Playing With Fire” song that was part of his “The Carter III” CD.Â Abkco Music filed an infringement suit against Lil Wayne for using the lyrics after it had denied him permission.Â Abkco was going to grant permission to Lil until it read all of theÂ song’s lyrics, described as “explicit, sexist, and offensive.”Â The suit was settled last week, not for bucks for Abkco, but by Lil Wayne removing the song from the CD and from iTunes.Â The Rolling Stones didn’t want the money — they didn’t want to be associated with Lil Wayne’sÂ claptrap.Â From a groupÂ that broughtÂ usÂ Keith Richards and his adventuresÂ and songs such as “Under My Thumb,” the Barometer is pleasantly surprised.Â However, when an elephant flies, you don’t complain because it doesn’t stay up too long.Â The Stones have offered an important lesson: Self-regulation is the best medicine.
